Clyde to honor three at Sports Hall of Fame Banquet

All eyes will be focused on Clyde for the sixteenth consecutive Sports Hall of Fame Banquet to be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the CLYDE VFW. A sell-out crowd is expected which will include dignitaries and guests from a far. For tickets and information please call Steve at 315-573-3157.
Along with two new inductees, legendary coach Nicholas J. DerCola will be honored on his 90th birthday. DerCola was inducted in the local Athletic Hall of Fame back in 2002 at the inaugural banquet, along with eight others, including “Downtown” Terry Brown.
DerCola and his wife Margaret came to Clyde in 1953, where he continued on to a thirty-two year coaching career at Clyde and Clyde-Savannah schools. They raised five children including one daughter and four sons. Coach, as he is referred to, was a Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director, Coached several of the major sports and later became an Administrator. After his retirement from Clyde- Savannah in 1985, he started coaching girls basketball and continued on until 2002 when he finally ended his coaching career. One of his most unique accomplishments, was that he won four Sectional Championships in four different sports. DerCola achieved 683 total victories during a forty-nine year coaching career. His car license plate boldly displays this figure as it reads, COACH 683.
