Cupello named National Coach of the Year

January 22, 2013, INDIANAPOLIS - Monroe Community College men's soccer coach Nelson Cupello was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Field Turf Junior College National Coach of the Year at the NSCAA's annual convention in Indianapolis last week.

Cupello, who just completed his 23rd season, guided the Tribunes to an 18-1-1 record and a third-place finish at the NJCAA Division I national tournament.  It was the program's best finish since winning the national title in 1965.

An All-American player at MCC and SUNY Brockport and a former No. 1 selection of the Rochester Lancers of the NASL, Cupello earned his 300th career coaching victory at Monroe in last October's Region III championship game and is 303-101-27 overall.

He was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2002.
